Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for Texas C-BAR's pro bono referral services, an organization must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a nonprofit organization (including association) or seek to be one.
  • Serve low-income populations.
  • Be governed by a board.
  • Have an inability to afford legal services/paying for legal services would negatively impact charitable work.

Priority is given to nonprofits whose focus is improving quality of life and community infrastructure in low income communities through affordable housing development, workforce development, creating access to credit and capital, child care and other means. Exceptions to the above guidelines require approval from C-BAR's executive committee.

Other non-published factors which staff will use to evaluate eligibility include:

  • organization's reliability and viability/ability to work with volunteers
  • area of legal expertise required by the referral
  • access to other pro bono resources
  • demonstrated impact
